Whether you are a night owl or an early bird but before you hit the sack tonight, let’s talk about winding down with a bit of meaningful reflection. Now I don’t know if you are guilty of this, but most of us tend to grab the phone and scroll away until the eye lids get heavy. Is that a habit you intend to kick? An alternative could be a little bit of night time reflection and then you can treat yourself to some endless scrolling if you like. So whether your day was a whirlwind of activity or a slow-motion reel, taking a few moments to reflect can bring a sense of closure and peace. Don’t take my word for it- try it for your yourself.
Here are five bedtime prompts that I swear by to help you wrap up your day on a high note:
- Gratitude Moment: “What is one thing I am grateful for today, and why?” Pause for a second and think about that one thing, big or small, that brought a smile to your face. Gratitude is a powerful mood booster!
- Positive Highlight: “What was the best part of my day, and how did it make me feel?” Reliving your day’s highlight can end your day on a positive note. Maybe it was a funny meme, a delicious meal, or just a pleasant chat with a friend.
- Self-Compassion: “Was there a challenging moment today? How can I be kind to myself about it?” Cut yourself some slack! Reflecting on challenges with a self-compassionate lens helps you grow without the heavy baggage of guilt or frustration.
- Kindness Recap: “Did I show kindness to someone today, and how did it make a difference?” A little kindness goes a long way. Think about a moment you brightened someone’s day – maybe you held the door open or just smiled at a stranger. It’s a sweet way to reinforce positive behaviour.
- Looking Forward: “What is one thing I’m looking forward to tomorrow?” Ending your day with anticipation for something good tomorrow can give you a sense of excitement and purpose. It could be as simple as your morning coffee or a call with a loved one.
Try these prompts tonight, and let the reflection guide you to a peaceful slumber. Want more personalised tips or need someone to talk to about your reflections? I’ll be happy to connect with you to unpack some themes in a counselling session. Together, we can explore your journey and uncover the calm and clarity you deserve.
Sweet dreams and happy reflecting!
