Covid really changed our world drastically. Whilst life has returned to normal to a large degree some of its reminders are here to stay such as the way we work. Hybrid working or work from home is not unusual anymore and infact is a norm in many industries today. Same with telehealth consults. Allied health professionals have jumped on to this and millions of people are now enjoying the flexibility, convenience and are experiencing immense time saving this modality offers. Of course there are always people who would prefer the good old face to face format over zoom appointments.
Counselling too has adopted this approach and now telehealth counselling is increasingly common. Lot of people simply connect with their counsellor via their tablets, phone or their laptops in the comfort of their homes, or in the car when it is securely parked somewhere between school runs or perhaps connecting to the therapist during their lunch break in a quiet room. A lot of parents tend to use telehealth counselling option specially when the kids have gone off to bed in the evening and they can take advantage of the peace and quiet at night having a session in the privacy of their home with a cuppa.
Anecdotal evidence supports the advantages of telehealth counselling. It suits a variety of lifestyles, busy mums, working individuals, shift workers and single parents multitasking on a variety of chores. There is often an impression amongst some people that face to face counselling offers more rapport building. However if you click with your counsellor and they are experienced in an area that you need help with, subject to the issue at hand, there is a high probability that you may find telehealth counselling experience beneficial. Some people start off their first session in a face to face setting and then transition to telehealth counselling sessions. This approach has helped a lot of sceptical people embrace the idea of telehealth counselling.
If you haven’t tried telehealth counselling before, I encourage you to give it a try. All you need is a device, stable internet connection and a private space.
Wishing you peace and purpose
